Introduction

I am a DevOps Engineer originally from the UK but now living in Canada. I have over six years of experience in the DevOps Industry with a security and automation first mindset heavily focused within AWS. Three of those within the consulting space, building, selling and presenting solutions to higher level stakeholders while enabling client's engineers to provide autonomy on newly provided systems.

Experience

Senior DevOps Engineer

August 2022 - September 2025

Liatrio | California, USA (remote)

While working for this US based DevOps consultancy I worked on many client projects including a major Airline's cyber security department with the focus of improving and securing the developer experience. For a startup I helped implement an end to end MLOps deployment Greenfield project on AWS and CoreWeave. For a major US based auctioneering company I helped orchestrate a migration project of around 1400 repositories from ADO to Github. Finally, I also helped reduce Infrastructure costs through FinOps based projects. I also was involved in an internal workshop which focused on improving our prompt engineering skills in a collaborative team environment.

  • Introduced and rewrote Terraform modules, implemented Terragrunt into the existing code base. Used ArgoCD to help maintain EKS clusters and modified AWS IAM roles and policies, ensuring least privilege access. Finally, modified over 100 Docker images and packages built from source to reduce container CVE vulnerabilities.
  • Committed to attending all onsite client rotations, fostering stronger relationships which helped translate business requirements into infrastructure solutions with the focus of improving the developer experience within the client and engaging in selling technical solutions to higher level stakeholders.
  • Developed Python AWS Lambda scripts and AWS OpenSearch dashboards to introduce and improve observability for over 250 developers within the department.
  • Introduced and implemented SAST and Dependency management tools to reduce developer backlog and helped secure developer CI pipelines.
  • Mentored over 30 colleagues through multiple clients, thereby strengthening the client's overall competency with any new solutions that was implemented.

DevOps Engineer

February 2021 - July 2022

Wejo | Manchester, UK (remote)

  • Maintained the AWS Linux based infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines while optimising security, performance and costs.
  • Involved in the full process from onboarding OEM partners to delivering smart car data to customers through Kafka systems and bash scripting.
  • Major projects involved a CIS benchmarking script to help secure over 100 EC2 Linux servers, which involved rewriting Ansible bootstrapping playbooks.
  • Used Qualys to monitor and distribute security patches within the Linux infrastructure as needed and through discussing ongoing issues with the security engineering team.

System Engineer

December 2019 - February 2021

University of Leeds | Leeds, UK (hybrid)

  • Initially brought in to help restructure the IT department to fit an agile methodology.
  • Collaborated with a system engineer to automate infrastructure, streamlining the route-to-live process, and implemented CI/CD pipelines.
  • Major projects involved containerising a major University application, which involved separating the Tomcat server and Groovy based application into separate modules, identifying the ports and endpoints used and modifying the configuration files with container based parameters.
  • Toolset used: Red hat, Azure DevOps and Docker.

Junior DevOps Engineer

February 2019 - November 2019

Rockar | South Newbald, UK (onsite)

  • Managed a fully hosted Magneto based infrastructure on AWS with over 100 Linux based EC2 servers and other core AWS services.
  • Helped firefight any issues and improved any processes to ensure the best DevOps practices were put in place.
  • Oversaw Code deployments to Production Servers.
  • Toolset used: Terraform, Cloud formation, Centos, Ansible, Jenkins, JIRA, Bamboo, Bash and Nginx.

Interests

Some of my interests include traveling and hiking. Taken a road trip around Iceland in a campervan and lived in Greece for a month. I also enjoy video and board games. I volunteered at a cat cafe in my spare time for a year. I also take retreats in my campervan from time to time in the surrounding areas of Alberta and BC. I am also learning C++ and the Unreal engine in my own time to make my own video game.
